Domestic Violence and Child Custody Decisions Alec and Lydia Act (House Bill 2995)

Scottsdale Custody Attorneys Focused on Child Safety

For parents in Scottsdale and throughout Maricopa County who are going through divorce, custody proceedings, or parenting-time disputes, it is important to be aware of a new law that was signed on June 22, 2026.

The Alec and Lydia Act significantly alters how Arizona courts handle child custody and parenting time in cases involving allegations of domestic violence or coercive control. This new law enhances protections for children in family court cases where there are claims or histories of domestic violence and abuse. The Courts must carefully consider child safety when making decisions about parenting time and legal decision-making.
