October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another partner. This kind of abuse affects everyone - men, women, and children of all races, religions and cultures. If you are concerned about someone in an abusive relationship or are a victim yourself, help and guidance is available by calling the 24-hour National Domestic Violence Hotline, 1-800-799-SAFE (7233). On the local level, most cities offer assistance through Victim Services programs. In Scottsdale, call 480-312-4226 to speak with an advocate. In Phoenix, call 602 261-8192 and in Tempe, call 480-350-8285.
