Recently, a client related the following story to us:
“I was driving home after meeting up with a friend in Old Town Scottsdale for a couple drinks. I only had two beers, but I am petite and had not eaten much that day. Still feeling confident to drive, I said goodnight to my friend and got behind the wheel. On the way home, my cell phone fell under the seat. I reached down to grab it, and by the time I looked up, I had hit the curb.
Soon after, I saw police lights in my rearview mirror. My heart was racing as I pulled over. Suspecting alcohol might be involved, the officer asked me questions about where I had been and how much I had to drink tonight, had me recite the alphabet, stand on one leg, and try to touch my nose with one finger. He shined a flashlight in my eyes, making me look left and right, and saw that my eyes were red and watery. Even though I passed the sobriety tests, because I had hit a curb and my eyes were red and watery, the officer placed me under arrest and took me to the station to get a blood test. The test showed that my blood alcohol content was .09, just above the legal limit of .08.
I was in a panic, had lots of questions, was terrified of doing jail time, and was scared about the financial burden of a DUI and what would happen with my driver’s license. Then I contacted one of the Scottsdale DUI Attorneys at Owens & Perkins and felt like I had someone on my side who would fight for my rights and protect my interests. I recommend Owens & Perkins to anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation. They answered my questions and eased my mind all while providing me with the best possible representation.”
