Drunk driving fatalities have declined 42% nationally since 1982 during the holiday season. However, even with the steady decline in such fatalities nationally Arizona law enforcement still made 3,042 DUI arrests from November 25, 2013 through December 31, 2013. Of these arrests, the average blood alcohol content (BAC) reported was .145 which is nearly twice the legal limit of .08.Almost 25% of those arrests were for an extreme DUI (.15 BAC or higher) and 337 of the 3,042 had a prior DUI arrest. The number of under-aged DUIs (where the alleged suspect’s age was under 21 years old) increased during the last two years from 187 arrests in 2012 to 210 in 2013.
