The holidays mean more parties as many of us celebrate with co-workers, friends and family. With the holidays and the New Year being less than one week away many people have already made plans with family or friends on how to celebrate their holiday. However, not everyone plans one how they will be arriving and leaving these events. Have you planned on how you will be arriving and leaving your holiday celebrations?
Arrests for DUI are very common during the holidays. Between Thanksgiving and the end of the New Year’s weekend is known by law enforcement agencies as the “DUI Season” – when DUI and alcohol related arrests are at a high point for the year.
A safe form of transportation should be considered and arranged prior to you attending any holiday parties to avoid a possible DUI charge. In Arizona, you can be charged with a DUI whether you’re on the highway, a street, or private property. All that is required is that you be in actual physical control of a motor vehicle while impaired to the slightest degree by alcohol or drugs. Even if your vehicle is parked and stopped, as long as you have the keys and can reach the steering wheel you could be charged with a DUI.
Below are some options for safe transportation this holiday season:
- Get dropped off/picked up by a SOBER driver
- Have a designated driver and hand over your keys to someone else if you plan on drinking
- Take a cab or Uber
